DMCC Foundations Could Reshape Succession and Wealth Structuring in Dubai

DMCC is preparing to introduce Foundations inside its free zone.

Economy Middle East reported that the framework is in final regulatory review. It is designed for succession planning, asset holding, wealth preservation and governance. This is worth watching.

Dubai already gave investors more structuring options through SPV and holding company licenses. Foundations would add a different tool. One built more around continuity, control and family governance. That matters because private capital structures are being tested harder now.

Banks want cleaner files. Regulators want clearer records. Families want fewer disputes when control passes from one generation to the next. A Foundation can help, but only if the finance operation around it is disciplined.

The entity chart has to make sense. Ownership records need to be current. Cash flows must be traceable. Reporting should match the structure. Tax positions need proper documentation. Otherwise the structure looks good on paper and weak in practice.

For UAE-based groups, the direction is clear. More structuring tools are becoming available. The standard of control around them is rising too.

A better question for principals: Is the structure built for ownership, or only for registration?
